Lovers of the Super Eagles of Nigeria feared the worst when Godfrey Obaboana wasn’t listed by Caykur Rizespor in their 1-1 draw against Akhisar Belediye Genclik Ve Spor last nite in a Turkish Super lig game.
The fears were borne out of the injury to Obaboana’s central defense partner Kenneth Omeruo which ruled him out of Nigeria dicey twin clash against Egypt in March, Obaboana’s absence made some wonder if he is also injured.
Owngoalnigeria.com can however report that according to reports from Turkey 25 year old Obaboana was benched due to his poor form and erratic tackles that has earned him eight yellow cards this season including three in his last seven games.
Coach Hikmet Karaman a day to the game when he listed his squad for the game opted to leave the Nigerian out for fear of him giving away a penalty in the game which is pivotal to their chances of staying up.
