The club career of Nigeria U20 shot stopper Udoh Akpan is on pause for now after the conclusion of trials with Argentina top division side San Lorenzo, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Akpan last represented the youth team of Israeli side Bnei Sakhnin but the foreign players rule made the club to pass on the option of extending his deal at the end of last season despite his impressive performance in the youth league.
Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively report that Akpan is in Argentina through the efforts of well known agent Marcelo Houseman but after a month of trials, a decision is yet to be arrived at regarding his potential signing.
Presently there is no timeline on when the club will decide on his signing with Akpan who won the U17 World Youth Championship with the 2015 Nigeria U17 team still been assessed by the coaching staff of the team in training.
Nigeria will soon open camp for players of the U20 ahead of their campaign at the U20 African Cup of Nations and Akpan will resume his battle with Daetan Ogundare for the first choice spot of the team.
