Newly capped Nigeria international Semi Ajayi says it wasn’t tough for him when he made his decision to represent Nigeria ahead of England when he was called up for the first time to the senior national team of Nigeria.
Ajayi made this known in an interview with respected Nigerian journalist Tobi Adepoju at the Super Eagles hotel in Uyo, where they are preparing for their upcoming back to back AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against Libya.
24 year old Ajayi has been a big hit with English Championship side Rotherham this season but rather than wait for his chance with the English national team, he grabbed the chance to play for Nigeria when he was invited by the handlers of the Nigerian team.
“It wasn’t a tough decision for me. I feel very much Nigerian. I played for the Nigerian youth teams. My parents raised me in a very much Nigerian way they taught me the Nigerian culture, I’ve been to Nigeria many times so to make the decision to come and play for the Super Eagles was very easy”, he told Adepoju.
He revealed he was born in London but his parents raised him up in the Nigerian way and he proved it by greeting in Yoruba language before the start of the interview monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com.
“I was born in London, grew up in London. I’ve lived all my life there but my parents make sure they brought me to Nigeria every other year, so I come to Nigeria every two years and spent lot of time with the families of my parents and growing up in a Nigerian house”.
” My father taught me about the yoruba culture, spoke to me in yoruba , we eat Nigerian foods, listen to Nigeria music”.
