Former Super Eagles left back Celestine Babayaro has praised the performance of Paderborn defender Jamilu Collins in Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Libya on Saturday in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers.
Collins made his competitive debut for Nigeria by playing from start to finish in the big win over Libya and his performance according to Babayaro is encouraging considering it was his first game at home for Nigeria.
His selection to start the game against Libya by coach Gernot Rohr came as a surprise to many but according to the former Chelsea ace Collins could be his best discovery since taking over as coach due to the fact that the left full back role has been a source of worry for a while.
” He (Collins) could be the best discovery of Rohr as coach of Nigeria. Handing him a start means Rohr is well aware of his abilities and he didn’t disappoint with the way he played. Considering the position has been a source of concern for a while his emergence is a source of joy”, Babayaro told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” It’s just his first game but the confidence he showed is something else. I won’t say he is my replacement yet but he could be the long term solution to the left full back issues “.
