Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is currently mulling over the prospect of dropping Leon Balogun for Kenneth Omeruo who has been posting impressive performances for La Liga side Leganes.
Omeruo’s resurgence coincided with a drop in game time for Leon Balogun at English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion where the Nigerian is playing second fiddle to the duo of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk, the first choice pair of coach Chris Hughton.
Balogun’s form was a cause for concern for the coach in both games against Libya last month and many pointed to his lack of game time at Brighton as the reason behind the dip in his form.
30 year old Balogun has only played two Premier League games out of a possible twelve games played so far in the English Premier League while Omeruo has played in the last five games for Leganes since his debut against Rayo Vallecano on the 6th of October.
The on loan Chelsea defender is now in pole position to pair Udinese defender William Troost-Ekong in the heart of the Nigerian defence against South Africa next weekend although Balogun’s near perfect understanding with Ekong could see him retain his spot.
