The proposal of the Nigeria National League to have eight team promoted to the Nigeria Profesional Football League which will see the league teams expand to 28 teams has been criticised by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.
Four teams were originally supposed to be promoted to the Nigeria Profesional Football League ( NPFL) from the second tier NNL via a playoff among eight team, but the board of the league association rose up to proposal having all 8 teams make the step up to the NPFL.
Yesterday, the club owners association of Nigeria rejected the proposal and forwarded their recommendation to the body formed by the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) to resolve the impasse.
Speaking on the issue, Rohr voiced his unhappiness over the plans insisting that it will make his job of scouting for players in the local league harder than it is right now and jokingly suggest that he would need at least ten scouts to effectively scout for players.
“It will be difficult for me to monitor 28 teams. The league will have 28 teams now. Maybe I will ask the (NFF) president to give me ten additional assistants to do the job,” Rohr said in Lagos.
“We will be watching them. We have seen a lot of them, my assistants; coach Imama Amapakabo who is a former coach will be going round, Alloy Agu will go round, Salisu Yusuf will be monitoring the league in the north. Victor Agali will monitor in Lagos. So I will need other assistants to help me.”
