Exclusive – Real Reason Why Efe Ambrose Invoked Contract Termination Clause In His Contract With Hibs

The decision taken by Efe Ambrose to terminate his contract with Scottish side Hibernian where he is by far their best player this season came as a surprise to many considering how settled he is at the club.

Ambrose triggered a clause in his deal which empowers him to cancel his contract with Hibs admist rumours of a possible move to a team in the English Premier League in the coming days.

While he could yet move to the English Premier League as largely speculated, his decision to quit the club has nothing to do with an offer from the Premier League as he is yet to receive any, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

His decision to invoke the clause came after talks broke down over a contract extension as Hibs offer of a three year extension fell short of what he demanded when talks started.

The defender didn’t terminate the deal without informing the club as the termination clause carries an instruction that he must inform the club two weeks before invoking the clause, something he did two weeks ago before a game in the league.

Despite terminating his deal he is still open to a return to the club if they offer him an improved offer close to what he is demanding financially, although he has been contacted by couple of teams in the English Championship.
