Out of favour Chelsea winger Victor Moses is willing to hold talks with the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) on making a u-turn on his decision to quit playing for the senior national team of Nigeria.
President of the NFF Amaju Pinnick made this known in a television programme on Channels TV monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com editorial team on Friday night.
Pinnick said he will hold a meeting with the forward and his representatives in two weeks time to talks things over and probably have him return to the team in time for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and even if he insist on his stance, then the NFF will organise a proper testimonial for him similar to what England did for Rooney.
” With all due respect to Nigerians am talking with Victor Moses because I believe he is somebody who has paid his dues and you don’t just leave Nigeria unceremoniously and I told him that. I talk to him everyday and I made him understand the reason why you know. He is very eager, very very eager but he still want to talk to me. Even if you say am begging him, I don’t mind “, Pinnick said.
“It’s not as if they are no players but you see we should encourage our player when they say oh I’m retiring, maybe it’s out of ego, we need to bring them in. It’s like your wife saying am not going to this event, you’ll go and beg her, she will go to the event and of course make an impact.
” The same thing here, he has paid his due. I recall the Nations Cup we won, he scored two penalties in the game against Ethiopia with ten minutes to go and that catapulted us for the quarter final. So you just don’t say he want to go, let him go.
” I will be meeting with him and his agent in a fortnight and even if he want to go, there must be a ceremony for him and that’s the truth. Look at what England did to Wayne Rooney, they brought him back. We must celebrate them all the time and that’s the truth”, he concluded.
Moses made the decision to quit international football after participating for Nigeria at the World Cup in Russia, where he scored once as Nigeria crashed out of the tournament in the group stage.
He cited family reason and club commitments as the two reasons behind his decision to quit the Nigeria national team but at Chelsea he has found games hard to come by under new coach Maurizo Sarri this season.
