The Nigeria U20 team have arrived in Niger Republic for their campaign at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations which will serve as qualifiers for the U20 World Youth Championship in Poland later this year.
Nigeria will begin their quest to win the tournament for a record eight times when they play their opening group game against Burundi tomorrow before their other group games against host Niger Republic and South Africa.
Despite the enviable record of the Nigeria U20 at the tournament, the present coach of the Nigerian team Paul Aigbogun says he is not under pressure to win the tournament.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, the coach said his main aim is to first of all qualify for the World Youth Championship in Poland but insist that the primary aim of the U20 is to identify players who can progress to the Super Eagles in the future.
” I’m not under any pressure to win the tournament. Basically we want to qualify for the World Cup in Poland although it will be nice to win the tournament. Aside that we’ve been told by the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) that the aim is to produce players for the senior team. That’s primarily our assignment with this team”, he concluded.
