Out of favour Nigeria international defender Efe Ambrose has agreed a short term deal with the option of a two year extension with English Championship side Derby County , Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively report.
Ambrose triggered a clause in his deal that empowers him to terminate his deal with Scottish side Hibernian in January making him a free agent who can switch clubs despite the close of the January transfer window.
He had a five days trial with Derby County and manager Frank Lampard confirmed the club will sign him but also said they are still some few details that need to be sorted out before the signing will be made official in the coming days.
Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that the deal will be an initial six months deal with the promotion chasing outfit but base on appearances and other variables the deal will be extended by a further two years.
For now both parties are yet to agree on his salary and also bonuses particularly if they make it to the play-offs or gain promotion to the English Premier League but for Ambrose it’s a chance to finally ply his trade in England.
Prior to his move to Hibs he was few details away from joining Blackburn Rovers but the deal didn’t get the approval of the English FA due to work permit issues but that won’t be an issue now as he already has a Scottish passport and it qualifies him to play as a citizen of the United Kingdom.
