The Nigerian contingent at Scottish champions Rangers is about to swell with coach of the team Steven Gerrard closing in on a deal to sign Millwall starlet Abdul Abdulmalik.
He is seen by many as one of the brightest prospect at the club and Manager Gary Rowett claimed the player’s agent is behind his desire to leave the team in the summer.
His form was rewarded with a call-up to the England Under-17s squad in January, although he wasn’t handed his international debut.
The 18-year-old’s scholarship with Milwall comes to an end this month and while the Championship club have offered Abdulmalik a professional contract, he is keen to explore his options elsewhere.
Rangers are the front runners for his signature and reports says talks are already at an advanced stage as he prefers a move to the Scottish side ahead of the duo of Swansea City and Arsenal who are said to be keen on his signing.
If the move happens, the Nigerians at the club will increase to five with the duo of Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo leading the number which also has Calvin Bassey and Nnamdi Oforborh who joined this summer.
