The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will most likely seetle for Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro as the next coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Peseiro was announced as the coach of the team before the 2021 delayed Africa Cup of Nations which took place in Cameroon but after the tournament where Nigeria crashed out in the round of 16, the NFF vetoed the agreement and allowed Austine Eguavoen led crew to continue.
They failed to deliver the World Cup ticket via the playoff and were subsequently given the boot and the search for a new coach started in earnest with the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations set to start in June.
One of the grey areas which led to a breakdown in the deal to employ Peseiro was his insistence on bringing in two assistants believed to be a technical assistant and also a fitness trainer. The NFF were not willing to accept it initially.
However that area has been ironed out and he is the favourite to be named coach on account that he has already started work before the previous agreement crashed. President of the NFF Amaju Pinnick is also keen on him.
The NFF per what we gathered see Peseiro as someone who is within their budget unlike the other four names shortlisted for the job in Toni Conceicao, Lauren Blanc, Phillip Cocu and Ernesto Valverde.
