Legendary Spanish defender Sergio Ramos was red carded as Sevilla crash to a 1-2 defeat against Real Sociedad in the Spanish La Liga over the weekend.
Ramos was initially dismissed after a second yellow card but it was upgraded into a straight red card for his sliding tackle on Brais Mendez in the 88th minute after a review by the video assistant referee. It was the 21st time that he has been sent off in the La Liga.
The 37 year old currently holds the record of the player with the most res cards in the history of the Spanish top flight but for all his nasty nature on the pitch, he showed his human side to Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar after the game.
Umar rifled home a second goal from around 25 yards to put his team 2-0 up. It was his first goal of the season following his return from the injury that kept him away from the major part of last season and it could potentially make the goal of the season nominees at the end of the season.
To appreciate the nature of Sadiq’s wonder strike, Ramos sent him his jersey after the game accompanied with a note praising the manner he took advantage of the space in front of him to good effect.
