Once view as the next big thing to happen to Nigeria after his exploit at the U17 World Cup in 2015, where Nigeria emerged as world champions. He hasn’t quite found his range in Europe with his high profile move to Arsenal ending few years ago without a single appearance for the first team.

He moved to Spanish side Huesca but had his contract terminated after returning late from international duty with Nigeria at the last AFCON. A move to second division Spanish side Ponferradina was his next step and after two seasons there, he is now at Chaves in Portugal.

Nwakali has made 12 appearances for Chaves in the Portuguese top flight with two assists to his name for the team, who are placed 16th on the log in the Portuguese top division.

Last weekend he was voted the man of the match in the 2-1 win over Vizela and afterwards he revealed that the gear coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has been checking on his via his assistants.

The 25 year old seems to choose the best time to hit form following his MOTM performance in the Liga Portuguese game vs Vizela only a few days ago. He said the visit has increased his chances of going to his second consecutive Africa Cup of Nations after making the squad for the last edition.

“The assistant coach of the National team has come to watch, three, four of my games and I spoke to him after one of the garnes.” The GD Chaves midfielder was quoted as saying.

“We spoke at length, and he said they are watching me. So. hopefully I will get an invitation. I am ready to play again for the national team.” Nwakali revealed.
