Cameroon secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Gambia to seal a spot in the round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, where they will take on Nigeria on Saturday, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.

The major talking point before the game against Gambia was the decision of the coach Rigobert Song to drop Andre Onana with Fabrice Ondoa preferred behind the sticks.

Song’s decision to drop the Manchester United first choice goalkeeper wasn’t a decision he arrived at by himself according to reports and it wasn’t totally related to the goals he conceded in the 0-3 loss to Senegal in their second game of the tournament, which he was in goal.

We gathered from the press in Cameroon that it was a joint decision from the coach and the rest members of the team, who were not comfortable with the way Onana acted before joining the team few hours before their first game against Guinea, because he wanted to be in goal for Manchester United in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ahead of the game against Nigeria, it is very likely that Ondoa will still be in goal with a former teammate of the coach Patrick Suffo revealing that all is not well between the coach and the 27 year old.

Suffo did not believe the issues had been resolved that time. He told BBC World Service’s Sport Today : “As far as being friends, I’m not very sure.

“I’m curious to see what’s going to happen once they start working together again. The player came out and denied it was [a] discipline [issue], so many people in Cameroon understood that it was maybe other problems.

“I believe [Onana] said he didn’t want to play while these guys were in charge of the team – Rigobert and the rest of the staff. I believe he is coming to play for Cameroon, not the manager or anybody else. That is sometimes a problem because you have to have the same view of football to be able to perform at the highest level.”
