These are not the best of times for one cap Nigeria international winger Nathan Tella at German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Tella won the league and cup with the German side last season in what was his first season at the club following his transfer from English championship side Southampton. He made a total of 42 appearances in all competitions picking up six assists and also scored seven goals.
Tipped to have more game time this season, that hasn’t been the case for the 25 year old, and in an interview with German newspaper Bild he voiced out his frustration at not getting enough minutes, although he said he got assurances from the coach Xabi Alonso that all will be fine.
“It’s frustrating, I’ll be honest, but I spoke to the coach. He [Alonso] assured me that I’ll get opportunities and that I have to be patient,” he told BILD. “When I get a chance, I have to show myself. I think I’ve done well, and I also think I’m training well.”
His lack of game time is partly responsible for his omission in the list of players who were called up to the camp of the senior national team of Nigeria for the recently concluded international round of games. His sole cap for Nigeria came in the 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the world cup qualifiers.
