Four new players trained with the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the first time ahead of the dead rubber AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie against Seychelles in Asaba on Friday and the friendly game against Egypt.
Owngoalnigeria.com watched the quartet of Enyimba’s duo of Valentine Ozornwafor and Ikouwem Utin Udoh in training same way we had our eyes on Paul Onuachu of Danish side FC Midtjylland.
Ndifreke Effiong who was handed a late call up was also part of the session and the Akwa United forward showed didn’t look like he is still suffering from the knock which led to his substitution over the weekend against Heartland.
Udoh who was deployed as one of the options at left back found it hard to cope with the pace and tricks of Moses Simon who was up against him, same way he couldn’t keep Henry Onyekuru in check. He however impressed with his runs forward and close ball control.
On his part Valentine Ozornwafor started the session brightly by ensuring that Odion Ighalo who was in attack alongside Ahmed Musa got no joy playing through his position. Although the pair later scored he did cover himself in glory with the way he played out from the back.
Paul Onuachu proved to be handful for William Troost-Ekong with his size putting him in the way of the Udinese man. A lot has been said about the threat he brings from aerial balls but it must be said as well that he isn’t bad playing with his feet judging by what we saw at the session.
Effiong was full of running and was very comfortable among the foreign based players despite training with most of them for the first time. Not scared of putting in a tackle.
