Brian Bayeye is the new defender of the DR Congo national team, set to showcase his skills in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualification matches. The 24-year-old right-back was urgently called up to the Leopards by head coach Sebastien Desabres as a replacement for the injured Gideon Kalula, according to Foot-Africa.

A Crucial Test for Bayeye and DR Congo

The team faces a significant challenge with two qualifying matches against South Sudan and Mauritania. Bayeye could play a vital role in securing victories. While he remains a relatively unknown figure for many fans and analysts, his football career has already drawn attention.

Who is Brian Bayeye? Early Career and Development

Bayeye started his football journey in France at the Troyes Academy. However, he moved to Italy at an early age and joined the Capri club system. His talent was evident, but breaking into top-tier football proved challenging.

From Italy’s Lower Leagues to Torino

After playing in Italy’s lower leagues, Bayeye earned a move to Torino in 2022, who signed him for €700,000. Unfortunately, he struggled to establish himself, making only two Serie A appearances. He gained more playing time in lower divisions, featuring in 19 Serie B matches and 47 in Serie C.

Seeking Stability: Loan Move to Serbia

To secure more regular playing time, Bayeye joined Serbian club Radnički Niš on loan in the 2024 winter transfer window. There, he continues to develop and gain valuable experience.

International Career: A Chance to Shine

Bayeye’s international career with DR Congo is still in its early stages. He has three caps for the Leopards but has yet to contribute with goals or assists. His latest call-up presents a crucial opportunity to prove himself in high-stakes qualification matches.

A Defining Moment: Can Bayeye Help DR Congo Secure World Cup Qualification?

The upcoming matches against South Sudan and Mauritania will be a major test for both Bayeye and the national team. The Leopards must secure six points to boost their chances of reaching the World Cup finals. By stepping in for Kalula, Bayeye has the chance to make an impact and potentially secure a permanent spot in the squad.
