The U20 team of Nigeria suffered their first defeat at the ongoing WAFU B Tournament losing 0-2 to Burkina Faso, who finished as group winners, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nigeria went into the game searching for their third consecutive win, which would have been a new record for Nigeria in the tournament’s history but they were no where near their best.
Burkina Faso got rewarded for their dominance with the opening goal through a corner kick that caught the defence of Nigeria ball watching.
Flying Eagles fail to create anything meaningful and it wasn’t a surprise when Burkina Faso extended their lead from a long range free kick, that caught the goalkeeper of Nigeria in no man’s land.
A raft of substitutions by the coach of Nigeria Abdullahi Maikaba failed to spark any meaningful life into the team, with Burkina Faso running away with all three points and top spot, although Nigeria are also through to the semi final by finishing second.
