Nigeria youth international Wilfred Ndidi is thriving at Belgium Pro League side Genk who are well in line to qualify for next season UEFA Champions League.
19 year old Ndidi who is in his first full season in Europe has grown in leaps and bounds into his new role as the team defensive midfield anchor from his customary role as a central defender.
Last season Ndidi whose move to Genk was made official in January after he clocked 18 in December made just six appearances but this season only two players have more appearance in the league than him.
Ndidi has made 26 appearances for the team who are through to the championship playoffs more than any other player bar the duo of Christian Kabasele and Sebastien Dewaest who have 30 and 27 appearances respectively.
He would have made more appearances that the 26 he had were it not for the suspension he was given for accumulated caution and his fine form made the team to tie him to a new deal which will run out in the summer of 2020.
Coach Peter Maes once described Ndidi as the most important player in his team and the defender turned midfielder who has an assist and a goal to his name has not failed to impress.
Genk are in the Championship play-offs where they will battle Club Brugge,Gent,Anderlecht,Oostende and Zulte Waregem for a spot in Europe.
On his part Ndidi will be hoping he wins a personal war ahead of his Nigerian counterparts at other teams challenging for the title namely Joseph Akpalla and Saviour Godwin at Oostende,Moses Simon and Peter Olayinka at Gent,Imoh Ezekiel of Anderlecht and Chuks Aneke of Zulte Waregem.
