Gent of Belgium new signing Rabiu Ibrahim says watching former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha helped him learn a lot about dribbling, which has helped him become the footballer that he is now.
25 year old Rabiu Ibrahim provoked memories with the Nigerian legend when he burst onto the scene in 2007 at the Under-17 World Cup in Korea, for the all conquering late coach Yemi Tella tutored side.
However, a move to Sporting Lisbon and subsequently PSV failed to give his career the necessary push he so needed at the early stage, and even a two year stint at Celtic, wasn’t productive as well.
He recovered and was close to realising his potential at fellow Scottish side Kilmarnock, when an on pitch slump in the second half of the season ended his rise.
A year later he went to AS Trencin of Slovakia, where he rediscovered and relaunched his career in two seasons with the Slovak champions, that earned him a move to Gent of Belgium this summer.
His arrival at Gent has once again brought up the issue about how similar he is to the former PSG, Fenerbahce and Bolton Wanderers star. However he is of a different opinion as he praised the former Super Eagles captain for his career rise.
” I watched Okocha a lot as a young boy growing up, I learnt a lot from him on how to dribble. My ability to pass the ball while looking at another direction is a skill I learnt from the master” He said to Owngoalnigeria.com.
” There’s more to my game now, I have added goals and assist as well, as much as I love the fun side of giving fans value for their money and time, goals can also be fun you know”.
