Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was sent for an early shower by the referee on his return from injury in a game for Mainz 05 II against Preuben Munster.
Balogun was playing his first game of 2017, no thanks to injuries and fitness issues which so saw him play less games towards the end of the year.
The Super Eagles defender has been out injured since the resumption of the league in Germany, but recently returned to full training hence was given a run out with the B team who are campaigning in the third division.
It was not as memorable as the 28 year old would have hoped as he was sent off for two bookable offenses committed in the 27th and 86th minute. The first time he will be sent off in over 1,500 professional games at club and international level.
His sending off didn’t impact much on the result of the game as Mainz 05 II ran out 3-1 winners over Preuben Munster, but Balogun has now been ruled out of the next game of the first team in the league.
