Captain of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel has revealed the how the Super Eagles of Nigeria were able to beat Zambia 1-0 to qualify for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Mikel was on from start to finish in the game, which victory earned Nigeria 13 points, a tally that can’t be matched by any other team in the group with one game left to play.
Speaking at the post match conference, the Tianjin Teda midfielder told newsmen that they had a plan to contain Zambia for an hour before going for the kill.
” They (Zambia) looked way better than the team we beat in Zambia. They were very physical and energetic”, the former Chelsea midfielder said.
“We know if we can stand them up with all their energy, after an hour our technical abilities will come into the game and that was what happened. We had few chances but Alex came in and got the goal. We are very pleased to be going to Russia”.
