Former Super Eagles hopeful Kenneth Otigba has switched allegiance back to Hungary after coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr failed to name him in his latest squad for upcoming friendly games later this month.
It appears Otigba who now plays for Hungarian side Ferencvaros was hoping to be a part of Nigeria’s squad for preparations for the World Cup, but Rohr appears not to have a spot for the 25 year old in his squad.
Rohr reportedly sounded out his desire to have the former Heerenven defender in his squad one year ago, while he was on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa, but nothing came out of the interest of the Nigerian coach in regards to a call up to the team.
Otigba who turned down an invitation from Hungary in 2013 in favour of a call up from Nigeria has now agreed to be included in the Hungarian squad ahead of their upcoming friendly games in March according to coach Georges Leekens.
Leekens said Otigba has agreed to play for the country he captained at youth level once again, hence his inclusion in the squad for the games against Kazakhstan and Scotland.
“I think the biggest surprise in the list is Otigba Kenneth’s name”, Leekens said while speaking on the list of players for the games against Kazakhstan and Scotland respectively.
“ I contacted him and we talked for a long time because I wanted to know if you would like to play in the Hungarian national team with the whole heart to help the national team.”
“As he replied yes, I invited him to the frame as well because I think I can benefit the team, but I also think of all the other players in the frame.”
