The Super Eagles of Nigeria are lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation for today’s game against Czech Republic as coach Gernot Rohr refuse to use the 3-5-2 formation which worked perfectly for the team in the second half of their 1-2 loss against England on Saturday.
Rohr stuck with his trusted formation but this time around he changed the duo of Joel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi who were both ineffective in the first half against England with the duo of John Ogu and Wilfred Ndidi taking their spot.
Ogu will play as the deepest of the midfielders, a role similar to playing as one of the central defenders while Ndidi will be ahead of him to provide cover for captain John Obi Mikel who will play just behind the main striker Odion Ighalo.
Mikel is not the quickest hence the decision to play Ndidi close to him instead of Ogu as the Leicester City man can use his pace to snuff out counter attack threat if Mikel is caught high up the pitch.
Meanwhile the tactical position of Ogu is also as a shield for the central defence duo of William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun as Rohr aims to put a halt to their poor defensive record of conceding five goals in their last three games.
