Everton forward Ademola Lookman is still keen on his plant to switch allegiance to the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite the efforts of the current coach of the England national team Gareth Southgate.
Southgate who managed the forward at U21 level for England try persuading the talented wing striker to shun any plan of representing Nigeria at senior level as he will make the step up to the senior national team of England.
However, Lookman has made his mind up with his father particularly keen interested in seeing his son play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria instead of England, where he has progressed through the ranks.
Already Nigeria have initiated moves to have FIFA transfer his nationality according to same source who broke the new of Lookman’s switch of allegiance to Nigeria to this portal as early as July this year.
” No going back. The process of his nationality switch is on. Southgate has a very good relationship with Lookman but not on this issue because the father of Lookman is keen on his son playing for Nigeria at senior level and no England”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com in an exclusive chat.
This is not the first time England has failed in their bid to stop a player of Nigerian decent from switching allegiance to the Super Eagles as then manager of England Roy Hodgson tried stopping Alex Iwobi from representing Nigeria.
Hodgson placed a call across to Iwobi on his way to the airport ahead of his trip to Nigeria for his competitive debut against Egypt in 2015. The player stuck to his plan and he has since established himself as a regular with the Super Eagles.
