Former Nigeria youth international defender Lukman Zakari has clashed with his Latvian club FS Metta for pegging his transfer fee at $200, 000 after a successful trial with African champions Esperance of Tunisia.
Zakari impressed during training with the team and even had his medicals two days back before talks over a move broke down with Metta, the Latvian side demanded a fee of $200,000 in their reply to a proposal to sign him by Esperance.
In their proposal Esperance want to sign the 20 year old for free from FS Metta and also proposed to pay the Latvian side 30% of his future transfer, but it was flatly rejected and with the transfer window closed in Tunisia, the deal is off.
Speaking to Owngoalnigeria.com, Zakari confirmed the deal is off due to Metta’s excessive demand, which he termed as ridiculous considering he had a deal that he will be allowed to leave if an offer comes in for him before his decision to join the club two months ago.
” Metta didn’t pay anything for my transfer fee. I was told I will be allowed to leave when an offer comes but they killed my dream move to Esperance with a demand of $200,000. This isn’t fair”, Zakari told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” I am confident we can still work out something because I have already told Metta that even if I play for them I won’t be doing so with all joy although I will give my best on the pitch as a professional to the team”, he stated.
