The Nigeria U23 team played the first leg of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers tie against Guinea in Abuja and it ended in a 0-0 draw, OGN reports.
Both teams had a very poor first half with Nigeria coming the closest to breaking the deadlock when Ogunniyi Omojesu saw his effort come off the wood work. It was the only meaningful action of the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Nigeria struggled to carve out any meaningful opening with coach Salisu Yusuf resorting to making substitutions but all failed to provide the spark needed to open scoring in the game.
Guinea who were well organized in defence and also looked deadly on the break hanged on for a 0-0 score with the hope of overturning the deficit when they host Nigeria in three days time.
The result has now piled more pressure on Salisu Yusuf, who has so far failed to convince since taking over as the coach of the team. Failure to qualify for the AFCON which is the qualifiers for the Olympics will no doubt but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under pressure to fire the coach.
