Head coach of South Africa Hugo Broos has given details of his plans to quit coaching citing two conditions as what will be key in his decision making, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Broos is largely credited for turning the fortunes of the South Africa national team around since his appointment almost three years ago. He led them to a third place finish at the last AFCON and they presently sit top of their world cup qualifiers group after cruising their way to the next AFCON as well.
However their lead at the top of the world cup qualifiers group could be slashed with FIFA expected to hammer them with a minus three points and minus three goals sanction for fielding an ineligible player in Teboho Mokoena in the win over Lesotho.
A decision is expected to be made before the next round of games in the world cup qualifiers in August, per what sources familiar with such cases revealed .
If it happens as expected like other cases before this, their lead the top will be reduced to just two points over second place Rwanda, and more significantly Nigeria who are seen as their closest challengers despite sitting in 4th position will now be just three points behind them.
The situation in the world cup qualifiers will hold a strong part in any decision by the Belgian to quit as coach of the team, and he made it known in a recent interview about his future.
“I will either stop in January, if we are not qualified for the World Cup. Or I will stop after the World Cup,” Broos announced.
“Stopping will really mean stopping,” he also added. “The job as a coach will be done. I know I’ve said that a few times, but this time it’s final.”
