Head coach of Italian Serie A side Venezia Giovanni Stroppa has defended the decision of the club to splash €16m on the signing of Nigeria international striker Akor Adams from Sevilla, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Akor completed his move to the newly promoted Serie A side, a huge statement from the club who are backed with funds from hip hop icon Drake who invested in the club.
Yesterday he was officially unveiled and it will be his fourth club since moving to Europe. He joined Sevilla 18 months ago from French Ligue 1 side Montpellier.
The outlay on the Nigerian was seen as excessive by some people in Italy, but the coach said Akor will lift the level of the club in attack and also bring them to their first objective of staying in the Italian top division.
“First of all, I can confirm he (Akor) is an important player, who will give us a big boost. Numerically, we have some gaps defensively: we’ll try to think things through. I’m not good at naming names, but sporting director Antonelli certainly has the money in his pocket: we’ll see what he can do. I’m very satisfied with the club’s work”, the coach said.
