Nigeria U20 team book a place in the final of the ongoing WAFU B tournament with a 4-3 penalty shootout win over host Côte d’Ivoire after both teams stay tied at 2-2 after extra time, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Côte d’Ivoire took the lead early into the first half and protected it until the end of the half, but Nigeria pegged them back in the second half through a goal from captain Habila Simeone.
Simeone was quickest to react from a long throw in. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until very early into extra time when Nigeria once again profited from a long throw with substitute Abubakar Aliu the goal scorer for Nigeria to put them ahead.
Their lasted till one minute before the end of first half in extra time, when their defence was ball watching and conceded the equaliser that took the game to the lottery of penalty kicks.
Goalkeeper Clinton Lawani emerged as the hero for Nigeria by stopping two spot kicks, sending them into the final where a win will see them qualify for the U20 AFCON.
