Victor Osimhen has turned down the chance of wearing the vacant number 9 jersey at Turkish side Galatasaray, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The number was left vacant by Argentine Mauro Icardi who left the club in the summer after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal.
Osimhen was expected to inherit the iconic number, which he wore at Italian Serie A side Napoli but he has confirmed that he will stick with his shirt number 45.
He gave reasons behind his decision to stick with his shirt that he had worn for the two years he has spent at the club. “I expect you’ll sell more shirts, but I think you’ll understand me. Number 45 brought me good luck at Galatasaray,” Osimhen said.
“I want to continue with the same number’, he stated.
Meanwhile his future at the club is still uncertain with reports of Spanish giants Barcelona looking at a deal for him in the summer, if Ferran Torres insists on a move away.
