Two years after switching his nationality from Nigeria to Canada Promise David has joined English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion from Belgium side USG, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The deal is said to be a season long loan deal with an obligation to sign him permanently for a fee said to be in the region of £22m at the end of next season.
A member of the last U23 team of Nigeria under Salisu Yusuf, and then playing in Estonia he was a part of the team that failed to qualify for the Olympics, he switched his nationality to Canada, where he was born one year ago and made their squad to the World Cup.
He featured in four of Canada’s five World Cup fixtures as a substitute, scoring in the 2-1 group stage defeat to Switzerland.
The 25-year-old arrives having played 82 times for the Belgian side, scoring 41 goals and providing nine assists since signing in 2024.
Having started his career in his homeland and then playing in Croatia and the United States, David appeared for two sides in the Maltese Premier League before moving to Estonian side Nomme Kalju and then Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
