A decision has been made by the head coach of the Nigeria U23 team Eric Chelle on his preferred option to lead the attack of his team when the qualifiers for the Olympics begin, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Chelle who also doubles as the head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria has his sights set on ensuring that Nigeria returns to the Olympic football event, after failing to qualify for the last two editions.
The coach has a scout who has submitted a list of foreign based players who will be a part of the team, when the qualifiers get underway later in the year.
We can exclusively reveal that 19 year old Hradec Kralove of Czech Republic striker Abdullahi Umar has been picked to lead the attack for the team, after impressing Chelle with his performances in Europe this season.
Umar scored twice for his team in the 2-2 draw against Panathinaikos in the first leg tie, and also tormented Besiktas in the early round of the Europa League.
Last season he scored a whopping 25 goals in 29 games for the U19 leading to his elevation to the first team, where he hasn’t so far looked out of place.
Sources say he is seen by Chelle as someone with a ceiling to improve like the top striker of the senior national team of Nigeria Victor Osimhen.
