One player who got everyone talking yesterday with his performance in Arsenal’s 4-1 win pre season over Girona was 18 year old midfielder Ifeoluwa Ibrahim, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
He was introduced as a second half substitute against the relegated Spanish LaLiga side and he didn’t look out of place for the remaining minutes of the game.
His ability to collect the ball in tight spaces, pick his pass and also break up play provoked memories of former Arsenal midfield star Thomas Partey. So good was he that head coach Mikel Arteta had no choice but to praise his contributions.
Born to parents of Nigerian descent in England, he is already a youth international at two different age levels, but still remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level.
We spoke to his relative who made us aware of his potentials, when he turned 18 in January on the chances of having him play for Nigeria in the future.
” You never can say never because he is from a proud Nigerian family and he is deeply rooted in the culture of his parents. However that (playing for Nigeria) can wait because he is already in the England setup”, he said.
