Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali showed his usefulness to Chippa United with a clean sheet in their opening game of the new Premier South Africa League (PSL), OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Nwabali mutually terminated his contract with the PSL side in February in search of a new adventure, but returned last month after failing to get an offer of his choice.
He was immediately thrown into the starting lineup for the first game of the season away to Golden Arrows, and immediately proved his mettle with a clean sheet.
The host piled pressure on Chippa but met a resolute Nwabali who made six big saves to ensure that his side avoid defeat, and pick a point in their first game of the season. He was voted the man of the match.
For the Super Eagles he is facing the prospect of losing his number one spot to Maduka Okoye. The Udinese shot stopper was in goal for Nigeria in the high profile friendlies against Poland and Portugal respectively.
