Former England youth international Chuba Akpom says his dream of playing for the senior national team of Nigeria is well and truly alive, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Akpom switched his international allegiance to Nigeria from England four years ago, but hasn’t been able to make his debut no thanks to poor form and an unstable career.
Now at newly promoted Ipswich Town following his move from Ajax in the summer, he says a senior debut for Nigeria still remains alive according to his representative.
” Akpom is of course available for Nigeria but he has to first and foremost be at his best level for his club in the English Premier League. I believe it will happen before the AFCON”, he said.
He however refused to be drawn into setting a target of goals for the 30 year old, who came through the ranks at English Premier League side Arsenal.
” No pressure. He is experienced enough to take it one game at a time. The idea is to have a good season”, he concluded.
