Coach of Bayer Leverkusen Carles Martínez Novell has ruled out the departure of Nigeria international striker Victor Boniface from the team in the ongoing summer transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Boniface spent last season on loan to fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen but didn’t have much success, no thank to fitness and and injury issues that brought his season to a premature end.
Fully fit and back at Bayer Leverkusen, the 25 year old Nigerian was given the chance to start a new chapter under Martinez in pre season, and he has not disappointed.
Fresh from scoring the winner against Newcastle United in their last pre season game, he has now been told in clear terms by the coach that he will remain at the club beyond the summer transfer window.
Although he was also told that a starting spot isn’t guaranteed going into the season, but it could change as the season progresses.
