Bayer Leverkusen star Nathan Tella doesn’t understand why he hasn’t been given an extended run in the senior national team of Nigeria despite his consistent form in the Bundesliga for three seasons, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The 27 year old made his senior international debut for Nigeria in 2023 under former coach Jose Peseiro, but hasn’t collected more caps since then and has only played in the Unity Cup one year ago under current coach Eric Chelle.
A regular for Bayer Leverkusen he made 17 appearances last season with a goal and four assists form his role on the flanks or as a wingback. Despite that he wasn’t looked at by Chelle for another chance.
” He ( Nathan) is as confused and surprised like you because when you are doing well for your club, it’s only natural that you get a national team chance but that has not been his case so far”, his representative told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
” For Nathan the hard work never stops and he will continue to push for recognition with his performance on the pitch. We will see what will happen in the next international break and subsequent ones leading to the next AFCON”, he stated.
