Super Eagles Invitee Not In Matchday Squad Due To Interest From Bundesliga Sides

0

The reason why one time Super Eagles invitee Anthony Dennis was not included in the matchday squad of Göztepe in their 3-3 draw against Samsunspor yesterday in the Turkish League has been revealed, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

22 year old Dennis was ever present last season for the team, making his omission from the matchday squad for yesterday’s game surprising to a lot of people.

We can exclusively reveal that the defensive midfielder, who saw a move to English Premier League side Coventry City broke down with discussions well advanced is expected to leave the club this summer.

Göztepe decided to leave him out not to jeopardise any potential deal for the €20m rated midfielder, who made the step up from their youth team to the first team last season.

Reports say German Bundesliga sides Mainz 05, Hoffenheim, Augsburg and Stuttgart are all looking at a move for him before the close of the ongoing summer transfer window.

Coach Of Bayer Leverkusen Blocks Summer Exit For Boniface

0

Coach of Bayer Leverkusen Carles Martínez Novell has ruled out the departure of Nigeria international striker Victor Boniface from the team in the ongoing summer transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Boniface spent last season on loan to fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen but didn’t have much success, no thank to fitness and and injury issues that brought his season to a premature end.

Fully fit and back at Bayer Leverkusen, the 25 year old Nigerian was given the chance to start a new chapter under Martinez in pre season, and he has not disappointed.

Fresh from scoring the winner against Newcastle United in their last pre season game, he has now been told in clear terms by the coach that he will remain at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

Although he was also told that a starting spot isn’t guaranteed going into the season, but it could change as the season progresses.

Super Eagles Squad For AFCON Qualifiers: New Right Back Missing, Aina Returns

0

Head coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has picked the players that will represent Nigeria when they begin their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFCON, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Super Eagles have been drawn in Group L for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and co-hosts Tanzania.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027, with matchday one kicking off on September 21, 2026. Nigeria will play host to Madagascar on the 23rd of September in Uyo.

We can exclusively reveal that back to fitness Nottingham Forest right back Ola Aina is back in the team. His return means there was no place for Genk defender Christian Akpan who made his debut against Portugal during the summer international break.

Chelle will however face a selection dilemma with the trio of Abdullahi Bewene, Ryan Alebiosu and Bright Osayi-Samuel fighting for the one slot left as deputy to Aina.

Klopp Move To Stop Odogu From Super Eagles Following Loan Move To Toulouse

0

Super Eagles target David Odogu will spend the season on loan to French Ligue 1 side Toulouse from Italian Serie A side AC Milan, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

An agreement was struck between both parties for his loan move, the first step towards the collaboration between both teams who are connected through the RedBird Capital. We would be wrong not to try and explore interesting avenues to create a link between the two entities,” president Olivier Cloarec had declared at the end of 2025.

The move by the 20 year old is the first among the teams but certainly won’t be the last. The Ligue 1 side primarily want Odogu to compete with Rasmus Nicolaisen on the left side of the defence, a position where he excelled in his youth. Earlier in the summer, Tobias Guddal was on the verge of joining Toulouse, but the deal fell through. He went to Sparta Prague for €5.5m.

Milan bought Odogu from Wolfsburg for €7m last summer, but his playing time was limited. According to LesViolets, Odogu is already in Toulouse ready to complete his move, having been training separately at Milan in recent days.

With Wolfsburg, Odogu had only played three Bundesliga matches. Milan therefore signed him based on the potential he had shown in their youth teams, while Anderlecht and Mainz were interested in acquiring him this summer. Fabrizio Romano also confirms the deal with Toulouse.

The rise of the defender was brought to the attention of the head coach of Nigeria Eric Chelle by former Nigeria international Segun Odegbami, who wrote that contacts has been made with him to inform the authorities that the young defender is interest in playing for the Super Eagles.

However, new German national team coach Jurgen Klopp has also included him in an expanded group of players to be watched for the future of the national team. Odogu was a World Cup and European Under-17 champion with Germany in 2023.

Brighton Push To Agree Record Transfer Deal For New Super Eagles Winger

0

English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion have identified 25 year old Nigeria international winger Femi Azeez as their top pick in the event of the departure of Amario Cozier-Duberry, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

A bid of £7.5m from Scottish Premiership club Rangers for winger Cozier-Duberry was rejected, he spent last year on loan to Bolton Wanderers and had a fairly successful season, helping them to win the League One play-offs, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists in 34 appearances and earning a place in the League One team of the season.

He has two years left on his deal and since his return from loan, he has featured heavily in pre-season under Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton but was an unused substitute for the 1-0 win at home to Bologna on Saturday.

He continues to have interest from Championship clubs over a potential loan move, while Rangers are among a number of teams believed to be interested in signing him permanently.

Brighton, meanwhile, are looking at alternative wingers including Millwall’s Femi Azeez, 25, who is deemed available at the right price and likely to leave the Championship club before the transfer deadline on 3 September.

The offer would have been Rangers’ second-highest transfer fee in more than 20 years. The Glasgow club paid £8m for forward Youssef Chermiti last summer, while Michael Ball and Tore Andre Flo were signed for larger fees in the early 2000s.

Capped by Nigeria at senior level in the summer, Azeez is keen on an exit to keep his spot in the Nigerian team. Last season he was named in the Championship team of the season and was nominated for the award of the Most Valuable Player in the division.

Green Lock FC: The Rising Stars Lighting Up 1xCup 2026

0

The true magic of football happens when players, coaches, and fans experience every moment together.—-

That was exactly the atmosphere at a 1xCup 2026 Badagry Zone qualifier, where Green Lock FC confidently defeated Dominion Stars 3–0. The victory became one of the standout moments from the start of the tournament.

Green Lock FC delivered the result while also showing character, discipline, cohesive team movement, confidence in attack, and a desire to prove that the club is ready to aim higher.

*Green Lock FC: more than just a team*

The story of this distinctive club began on October 15, 2023, in Abuja. Its founder,

Olufunsho Cliffton Peters, wanted to help his community. For many boys facing difficult life circumstances, the club became a chance to develop their talent, believe in themselves, and see a new path ahead. Green Lock FC is more than just a club. It has become a beacon of hope for young players dreaming of making it in professional football.

Behind every small miracle lies hard work. Peters built an effective platform that helps young footballers stay in the game, develop, and work toward a professional career. For the team, 1xCup 2026 became an opportunity to showcase their efforts to a wider audience.

*Green Lock FC’s top stars*

Green Lock FC’s opening victory over Dominion Stars demonstrated the strength of cohesive teamwork. However, several of the club’s players have already attracted particular attention. Right winger Promise Marcus scored a spectacular goal and stood out with an impressive blend of speed and technique, while Gafar Shonde gave a master class in full-back play, skillfully switching between solid defending and timely involvement in attack.

The main hero, however, was 18-year-old goalkeeper Elijah Chukwuemeka, who recorded his first clean sheet at 1xCup 2026. His story highlights the importance of daily training and persistent hard work. Elijah started training at his father’s academy at the age of five before receiving an invitation to join Green Lock FC’s youth system. He made impressive progress and earned his place in the starting lineup.

Despite his young age, Chukwuemeka shows great dedication and remarkable professionalism. He is doing everything he can to seize his chance to make it in football. Elijah understands the importance and unique nature of his position: “A goalkeeper is like a manager — you organise, motivate, and react to threats before they happen.” The keyhole on the club’s crest is a fitting metaphor for his play: the goal is well protected, and opponents find it very difficult to unlock it.

*Green Lock FC’s preparation for 1xCup 2026*

As part of its preparations for the tournament, the club announced open trials to find new young talent. The scouting process helped strengthen the squad, but the coaching staff faced a very difficult task: turning individually strong performers into an unbeatable team. Intense training, improving on-field understanding, and testing players in friendly matches were key elements of Green Lock FC’s preparation.

The head coach summed up the team’s philosophy: “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase it, we can catch excellence.” Only by giving your all in training can you reach the next level.

*Main goal: Competing for the title*

Green Lock FC has already become one of the standout sides in the Badagry Zone qualifiers, but no one intends to settle for just one impressive victory. The players, coaching staff, and club management do not simply want to participate in 1xCup

2026 — they want to be at the heart of the battle for the prestigious title. They are determined to make their mark on the tournament’s history by winning the trophy.

For Green Lock FC, this tournament is more than just a sporting challenge. It is a chance to gain media attention, present young players to a wider audience, and bring them closer to direct contact with scouts. Starting from the knockout stage, scouts from African and international clubs will attend 1xCup matches.

Green Lock FC’s players dream of professional careers, and taking part in 1xCup 2026 could be an important step on that path. They have already made a strong start, but their story is just beginning.

Follow Green Lock FC in their upcoming 1xCup 2026 matches. This vibrant and distinctive team could become one of the season’s biggest discoveries.

Highest Assists in Football History

0

Lionel Messi has the most recorded career assists in football history under widely used modern statistical definitions.Exact career totals vary between databases because football has never had one universal method for recording assists, particularly for matches played before detailed event data became standard.

That distinction matters when comparing players across generations. Goals have historically been recorded consistently, while assists can depend on how a statistical provider treats deflections, rebounds, penalties won and other actions preceding a goal.

Messi nevertheless stands apart in modern records because he has combined elite chance creation with extraordinary goalscoring over more than two decades at senior level.

Who Has the Most Assists in Football History?

Lionel Messi is the leading recorded assist provider in football history, with his senior club and international career putting him above 400 assists under commonly used statistical definitions.

Unlike goals, however, there is no universally recognized official all-time assist leaderboard covering every competition and every era. Historical records are incomplete, and different databases can assign different totals to the same player.

That makes it misleading to present career assist figures from several unrelated databases as though they were calculated under one methodology.

Among the players consistently appearing near the top of recorded career-assist lists are:

Player

Country

Primary Role

Creative Strengths

Lionel Messi

Argentina

Forward / Playmaker

Through balls, combinations, set pieces

Thomas Müller

Germany

Attacking midfielder / Forward

Movement, cutbacks, final passes

Luis Suárez

Uruguay

Striker

Combination play, final passes

Cristiano Ronaldo

Portugal

Forward

Crossing, transitions, longevity

Neymar

Brazil

Forward / Playmaker

Dribbling, through balls, combinations

Johan Cruyff

Netherlands

Forward / Playmaker

Vision, movement, positional creativity

Kevin De Bruyne

Belgium

Midfielder

Crossing, through balls, long-range passing

Ángel Di María

Argentina

Winger / Midfielder

Crossing, transitions, final passes

The order below Messi can change substantially depending on which matches, competitions and assist definitions are included. For historical comparisons, figures from the same statistical provider are considerably more useful than totals assembled from multiple methodologies.

What Counts as an Assist in Football?

In its simplest form, an assist is the final intentional contribution from a teammate that directly creates a goal.

The clearest example is a midfielder playing a through ball to a striker who immediately scores. The midfielder receives the assist.

More complicated situations can be treated differently. Depending on the competition or statistical provider, an assist may not be awarded when:

● the ball takes a significant defensive deflection;
● a goalkeeper saves the original attempt before another player scores;
● possession is lost before the goal;
● the player wins a penalty rather than directly supplying the scorer;
● the final action results in an own goal.

This is the main reason assist totals can differ between sources. Two databases may agree completely on how many goals a player scored while assigning different numbers of assists.

For meaningful historical comparisons, the most important requirement is therefore consistency of methodology.

What Makes a Great Assist Provider?

High-level chance creation requires more than accurate passing.

Vision allows a player to recognize a run before the passing lane fully develops. Technique determines whether the ball can then be delivered with the correct weight, angle and speed.

Timing is equally important. A through ball played too early may leave the receiver offside; played too late, it may allow the defence to recover.

Elite creators can also manipulate defenders before making the decisive pass. A dribble, body movement or change of direction can force an opponent out of position and create a passing lane that did not previously exist.

Raw assist totals still capture only part of that process. A high-quality pass becomes an assist only when the receiving player converts the chance, meaning creators are partly dependent on the finishing of their teammates.

Why Does Lionel Messi Have So Many Assists?

Messi’s exceptional assist total is closely connected to his unusual tactical profile.

Most elite goalscorers spend much of their careers in positions where teammates are expected to create chances for them. Traditional playmakers tend to operate deeper and sacrifice some scoring opportunities to supply others.

Messi has consistently performed both roles.

At Barcelona, he frequently moved away from the defensive line to receive possession between midfield and attack. From those positions, he could carry the ball towards goal, combine with teammates or draw defenders before releasing a runner into the space they had vacated.

His close control made this particularly effective. Opponents often needed multiple defenders to contain him, creating openings elsewhere.

Messi has also accumulated assists through set pieces, combinations around the penalty area, transitions and partnerships with elite forwards.

His longevity then magnified those qualities. More than two decades of senior football have allowed him to combine the creative production of an elite playmaker with the scoring numbers of one of the game’s greatest forwards.

Who Has the Most International Assists in Football History?

Lionel Messi also leads commonly cited recorded men’s international assist totals.

As with overall career statistics, historical international assist data should be treated cautiously because older matches were not tracked with the same consistency as modern games.

The World Cup provides a more clearly defined comparison. Opta’s historical dataset, which extends back to the 1966 tournament, credits Messi with 12 World Cup assists, the most recorded in that period. Diego Maradona is second with eight.

*Opta records from 1966 onward.

Messi added four assists at the 2026 World Cup, where Argentina reached the final.

That tournament also produced a separate record. France’s Michael Olise registered seven assists at the 2026 World Cup, the highest total in a single men’s World Cup in Opta’s dataset since 1966. Pelé’s six assists in 1970 had previously been the benchmark.

Who Has the Most Champions League Assists?

Champions League statistics demonstrate particularly clearly why the data provider needs to be specified when discussing assists.

Opta expanded its historical Champions League database in 2026 to include previously unaccounted-for seasons. Under that methodology, Ryan Giggs holds the record with 41 assists, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo with 40 and Lionel Messi with 39.

These are Opta figures. UEFA’s own current statistical table produces different totals, illustrating exactly why assist records should not be compared without identifying the underlying methodology.

The ranking also provides an interesting contrast with overall career records: leading football in total recorded assists does not necessarily mean leading every individual competition.

What Is the Record for Most Assists in One Football Match?

Single-match assist records depend on the competition, but one notable modern example belongs to Lionel Messi.

Messi recorded five primary assists for Inter Miami against the New York Red Bulls on 5 May 2024, setting the Major League Soccer record for assists in a single match. Guinness World Records also recognizes the achievement.

Messi scored once himself in Inter Miami’s 6–2 victory, meaning he was directly involved in all six of his team’s goals.

All five assists were primary assists — the final pass to the scorer — even though MLS can record up to two assists on an individual goal.

The performance also demonstrates one limitation of raw assist statistics: the final total depends partly on whether teammates successfully convert the opportunities a creator provides.

Do the Most Assists Mean a Player Is the Best Playmaker?

Not necessarily. Career assist totals provide valuable evidence of creative output, but they cannot produce a definitive ranking of football’s greatest playmakers on their own.

One major problem is historical coverage. Players such as Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona competed during periods when detailed event data was far less comprehensive than it is today.

Tactical roles also differ significantly. Xavi and Andrés Iniesta could control matches from midfield without necessarily making the final pass before a goal, while Zinedine Zidane’s influence involved ball progression, possession and the creation of attacking situations that may not appear in assist totals.

Modern analysis can consider a broader range of indicators, including:

● assists;
● chances created;
● expected assists (xA);
● progressive passing;
● set-piece creation;
● passing quality;
● tactical role;
● quality of opposition;
● longevity.

Expected assists are particularly useful because they estimate the quality of chances created rather than only counting those that teammates successfully convert.

The same need for context applies when forming a football prediction. Assist totals can indicate creative strength, but recent form, expected line-ups, opposition structure and the quality of chances being created may provide a more complete picture of how an attack is likely to perform.

Who Has More Assists: Messi or Ronaldo?

Lionel Messi has recorded more career assists than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both players combined extraordinary goalscoring with substantial creative output, but their tactical development followed different paths.

Ronaldo began his elite career as a wide player who dribbled, crossed and created for teammates before gradually evolving into a more specialized goalscorer operating closer to the penalty area.

Messi continued to spend significant periods dropping into deeper positions and acting simultaneously as a scorer and primary creator. That difference in role helps explain why his overall career assist total is higher.

The comparison becomes much closer in the Champions League. Under Opta’s reconstructed historical data, Ronaldo recorded 40 Champions League assists and Messi 39, leaving both just behind Ryan Giggs on 41.

Why Cross-Platform Gaming Is Becoming the Industry Standard

0

Ten years ago, buying a game meant picking a side. PlayStation owners couldn’t play with Xbox friends, and mobile gamers existed in an entirely separate world from console players. That separation has largely disappeared, and the shift happened faster than most people in the industry expected.

Today, over 80 percent of newly released multiplayer titles support some form of cross-platform play, according to recent industry tracking. Players now expect to jump between devices without losing progress, and studios that ignore this expectation risk losing a meaningful share of their audience before launch even happens.

What Cross-Platform Gaming Means

Cross-platform gaming allows players on different devices, PC, console, or mobile, to play together in the same match or shared world. It also frequently includes cross-progression, meaning a player’s account, items, and achievements carry over regardless of which device they log in from.

These two features often get bundled together but technically work differently:

● Cross-play: lets players on different platforms compete or cooperate in real time within the same game session.
● Cross-progression: syncs a single account’s data across devices, so switching from mobile to PC doesn’t mean starting over.

A platform such as Pin Up illustrates a similar principle outside traditional gaming, where users move between mobile and desktop access without losing their account history or activity. That same expectation of continuity has become standard across the wider entertainment and gaming space, not just in competitive titles.

Why Players Demand It

Player expectations shifted largely because of how gaming habits changed over the past five years. Mobile devices became many people’s first gaming platform, especially across African markets where console ownership remains lower than in Europe or North America.

A few practical reasons drive this demand:

1. Shared friend groups: friends rarely own identical devices, so cross-play keeps social groups intact rather than splitting them apart.
2. Flexible play sessions: players want to start a session on mobile during a commute and continue on console at home later.

3.
Larger matchmaking pools: cross-play means shorter wait times for matches, since the player base isn’t fragmented by platform.

Without this flexibility, a game risks losing players who simply switch devices more often than earlier gaming generations did. PinUp and comparable digital platforms have adapted to this same behavioral shift, recognizing that users increasingly expect their experience to follow them rather than staying locked to one device.

Benefits for Developers

Supporting cross-platform play isn’t just a player convenience, it directly benefits studios financially and operationally. A larger, unified player base means healthier matchmaking, longer game lifespans, and reduced pressure to release platform-exclusive content that fragments the audience.

Developers who implement cross-platform systems well tend to see a few consistent advantages, similar to how Pin-Upstructures its own account systems around consistency across access points:

● Higher retention rates: players stay active longer when they aren’t forced to choose a single device permanently.
● Reduced server fragmentation: combining player pools across platforms lowers matchmaking costs and improves match quality.

●
Broader monetization reach: in-app purchases and battle passes sync across devices, increasing the chances a player spends money regardless of platform.

This unified approach also reduces long-term support costs, since maintaining one shared backend system is generally cheaper than running separate infrastructure for each platform indefinitely.

Future Industry Trends

Industry analysts expect cross-platform support to become close to universal within the next few years, particularly as cloud gaming continues expanding across regions with improving internet infrastructure. Games built without this capability increasingly stand out as the exception rather than the norm.

A few developments are already shaping where this trend heads next:

● Cloud-based saves becoming the default rather than an optional feature.
● Console manufacturers loosening historical restrictions on cross-play agreements.
● Mobile hardware improving enough to run graphically demanding titles previously exclusive to PC and console.

These shifts point toward a gaming landscape where the device someone owns matters far less than it did even five years ago. The game itself, and the community built around it, increasingly matters more than the hardware used to access it.

Conclusion

Cross-platform gaming became standard because player behavior forced the shift, not because studios decided it would be nice to have. Shared friend groups, flexible play habits, and platforms such as Pin-Up applying the same logic beyond gaming pushed developers toward systems that follow players rather than locking them to one device. As infrastructure improves across African markets, platform choice will likely matter even less in what people decide to play next.

Super Eagles Striker Explains Decision To Join Italian Side After “Debut Brace “

0

One of the shock of the summer transfer window was the decision of Nigeria international striker Akor Adams to swap Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla for newly promoted Italian Serie A side Venezia, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

The decision which was a record transfer for the Italian side left a lot of people stunned, particularly as Akor is coming off a season where he scored ten goals in the LaLiga. More than any other striker at the club.

The excitement surrounding football can also lead fans to explore Bola88, alongside other entertainment options available through Amelia Victoria.

However the forward has put the whole issue behind him and started his career with Venezia on a high, with a brace and an assist in his debut game for the club against Modena in the Coppa Italia.

Akor while speaking on the game afterwards took out time to explain the rationale behind the shock move from the Spanish side to the Italian side.

“I’m happy to be here and represent this club. It was a tough start, even though we had control of the game. Then, with my goals, we managed to bring home the win, which is what matters. We have a lot to give, and I’m sure it will be a fun season”, he said before explaining his decision to join the team.

*Speaking with Director Antonelli, I understood the importance of this project. We can build something great here; we have a great coach and great teammates. Coach Stroppa pushes us to always do better. The Penzo is a unique stadium. I was very impressed by the fans and also by the uniqueness of arriving here. I want to be a key figure for the team and always look for the goal.

*At this stage, it’s important to understand what kind of demands he makes of us, but I’m sure we’ll be able to develop the style of football he demands of us. “

Galatasaray President Reveals Decision On Osimhen’s Transfer To Arsenal

0

Recent news suggests that Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen is a transfer target for English Premier League side Arsenal in the ongoing summer transfer window, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Osimhen is said to be open to a move away from the Turkish side , and has previously been linked with a move to another English Premier League side in Tottenham Hotspur and also Spanish sides Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

However it appears, the forward who started the season in Turkey on a high with a brace in the opening game of the season isn’t leaving this summer.

“I will not say ‘yes’ to any transaction that will harm Galatasaray or not benefit Galatasaray,’ Ozbek is reported to have told his inner circle.

“What I said about Baris Alper Yilmaz, I am now saying even more strongly about Osimhen. No matter how much the price is, I am not selling Osimhen.”

Galatasaray have already held their ground once with Osimhen this summer after rejecting a €130m (£111m) bid from Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, who are currently closing in on a top Chelsea star.
